Happy Virgo ♍︎ Season! The Sun officially entered Virgo ♍︎ this year on August 22nd, but if you look in most books it says that Virgo ♍︎ season starts on August 23rd. Both are correct if you ask me and either way, we’re in Virgo ♍︎ Season now, so let’s see what it has in store for us.

What’s Already Happening

Mercury Retrograde

I’m sure we have all been feeling the effects of this Mercury Retrograde in Leo ♌︎. Well, I have some great news: Mercury Retrograde will be over on August 28th! I’m hooting and hollering loud enough for all of us because I know I’ve felt personally attacked by this retrograde.

Mercury will stay direct in Leo ♌︎ until September 9th when it will then enter Virgo ♍︎, the domicile and exalted sign of Mercury. When Mercury is in Leo ♌︎ it has a very bold energy to it. You may notice people speaking launder and prouder around you and you may feel more confident in getting your point across. however, when mercury is in Leo ♌︎ we may have a tendency to die on hills not worth fighting for. When Mercury enters Virgo ♍︎, it will encourage you to reflect on those hills and analyze if they’re even worth your time.

When Mercury is in Virgo ♍︎, the planet feels the “most” like itself. Virgo ♍︎ is ruled by Mercury, like Gemini ♊︎. Gemini ♊︎ takes on the learning qualities associated with Mercury whereas Virgo ♍︎ takes on the analytical qualities of the planet. One thing about Mercury is that it prefers organization, which is one of the reasons that it is both domicile and exalted in Virgo ♍︎. Once Mercury is in Virgo ♍︎, it will hold on to that confidence that Leo ♌︎ provided it and also take on the refinement that Virgo ♍︎ gives it. This could look like brain fog finally clearing or having a really good conversations with someone you didn’t know you needed.

Saturn Retrograde

I’m not sure if you knew this but we’re currently in the middle of not one, but two retrogrades.

Saturn has been retrograde in Pisces ♓︎ since about June 29th and will remain retrograde until November 15th. Saturn is the Planet of Structures, Boundaries, and Traditions. On an individual level, when Saturn goes retrograde, it is an indication to reflect on the limits and restrictions we have put on ourselves. With this retrograde happening Pisces ♓︎–a water sign about dreams, wisdom, and aspirations–it is important to focus on if we’re doing anything to limit ourselves that stops us from achieving what we aspire to or dream about.

If you have Saturn in Pisces ♓︎ in your birth chart (like me), you are currently going through a Saturn Return (also like me). Planetary returns happen when a planet returns to the same sign/degree it was in on the day you were born (you can learn more about planetary returns in Cosmic Clarity: Planets). Saturn Returns are about shaking our structures and reflecting on any boundaries or limitations we’ve put on ourselves and because Saturn likes to throw challenges at us to make a point, they can be a really hard time in life. Saturn’s goal is not to hurt you though. It wants you to be your best self, so take this retrograde to reflect on the challenges you’ve gone through within the last few years and how you have grown from them. This goes the same for those of you who are Saturn ruled (those of you who have Capricorn ♑︎ / Aquarius ♒︎ Sun/Moon/Rising/Saturn placements.)

Because Saturn is a social planet, we must also look at its energy on a societal level. As the Planet of Structures and Traditions, when Saturn goes retrograde it can also reveal the faults in the foundation of a structures, physical and metaphorical. With Pluto–the Planet of Rebirth, Transformations, and Destruction–being in Aquarius ♒︎, I see these two planets are working together to bring forward the truths about the traditions and structures we’ve been living in. The fact that these two events will be happening during the presidential election is no coincidence to me, but I encourage you to not limit yourself to only thinking of change on a federal level. Get involved with your local politics too, Ballotpedia is a great place to start.

(I would also like to add that for some reason I had it in my notes that the Saturn retrograde would stop on November 4th but when I went to double check all sources to that disappeared so…I’m going to blame Mercury Retrograde on this one lol)

What’s to Come

Jupiter ☌ Mars ☌ Moon in Gemini

Jupiter and Mars have both been in Gemini ♊︎ since late July and have been basically all up on each other since the beginning of August so if you’ve been feeling particularly passionate about expanding yourself, this could be why.

Jupiter the Planet of Luck and Expansion, ruling over how we expand ourselves physically, mentally, and spiritually. When it is in Gemini ♊︎–the mutable air sign that loves to learn–the urge to expand our minds becomes very present. Mars is the malefic Planet of Passion and Aggression. It gets a bad rep for its association with aggression, so many of us forget that Mars energy is what we channel when it comes to getting what we want. When Mars is in Gemini ♊︎, that passionate energy takes on a mode of adaptability–ready to do whatever it takes to get what you want. When these two planets get together in Gemini ♊︎, we can’t help ourselves but want to explore our passions! Hold on to this energy, we’re going to come back to what to do with it later in this Kernel Diary entry. First, we’ve got to talk about the Moon.

Yesterday, August 26th, the Moon entered Gemini ♊︎ and today it has sandwiched itself between Jupiter and Mars. We associate the Moon as the Planet of Emotions and Nurture, but it also represents what we need to feel safe and secure. When it transits through Gemini ♊︎, one of the things that it is trying to bring to our attention is if we feel safe and secure in how we communicate how we feel. With it wedged between Mars and Jupiter, you may experience a lot more passion and confidence to do what it takes to make you feel secure in those areas of your life.

Venus enters Libra

Venus will be entering Libra ♎︎, its domicile, on August 29th. When Venus is in Libra ♎︎ it brings out a flirtatious energy. You may feel more open to starting new relationships and optimistic about love in general. Libra ♎︎ is also a very aesthetic driven sign, so this is good artistic energy to soak up. With it being Virgo ♍︎ Season, this would also be a great time to start planning out any creative projects you want to embark on.

On the not so fun side of Venus transiting through Libra ♎︎ is that it also brings out areas of codependency, inconsistency, and/or superficiality that you or others around you have not addressed. Try not to get defensive if these parts of you are brought to light. Instead, take this as a sign to do some reflection on how you can improve and grow in those areas–it is Virgo ♍︎ season after all.

Mars enters Cancer

On September 5th, Mars well enter Cancer ♋︎ and remain there for the remainder of Virgo ♍︎ season. Cancer ♋︎ is the Cardinal Water sign–intuitive, emotional, direct, nurturing. When Mars enters Cancer ♋︎, it shines down an compassionate energy. Remember what I said about holding on to that energy that’s been building to explore our passions? This transit that Mars will be doing through Cancer ♋︎ is encouraging you to nurture those passions. Cancer ♋︎ is about nurturing and when Mars in transiting through this sign, it intensifies the the feelings of wanting to nourish.
